Thousands of pets in our community face preventable homelessness, illness, and suffering — but your support provides affordable spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and preventive care that keep pets healthy and families together.

Experience the Magic of Jarels Toy Chest
Bring a child and witness the joy. Register at 10 am!

What it is:
Jarels Toy Chest is San Antonio's largest free toy giveaway event, dedicated to bringing the magic of Christmas to children whose families may be facing financial pressures. It has been running for more than 28 years and has distributed thousands of high-quality, brand-name toys to children ages 0 to 10.

How it works:

Bring your child ages 0 to 10. No registration or ID is required.
The event is first-come, first-served. The earlier families arrive, the better the chances of receiving toys.
Each child who is present receives one high-quality toy and a raffle ticket for a free bicycle.
The event is held at 6610 U.S. Highway 90 W, San Antonio, Texas 78227, starting at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

This event is more than a giveaway. It creates unforgettable moments for families in need. Children and parents often arrive early, full of excitement and hope. The high-quality toys, the joyful atmosphere, and the sense of community truly set this event apart.

How we do it:

The event is supported by donations and sponsorships, which enable the purchase of high-quality toys from local vendors, benefiting both the children and the local economy.
Entertainment and volunteer-led gift wrapping sessions add to the festive experience with face painting, music, balloons, and more.
Volunteers and local businesses team up to wrap toys, provide meals for volunteers, and ensure everything runs smoothly so families feel welcomed and cared for.
Get involved:

If you are a parent or guardian, arrive early to register at 10 am, bring your child, and enjoy the day.
If you would like to support the event, businesses and individuals can sponsor toys, entertainment, gift-wrapping materials, volunteer meals, or host a toy-wrapping event.
Volunteers are always needed to help wrap, organize, and distribute toys or to help spread the word to the community.

In honor of our 10th birthday, we’re serving up a playful new experience inspired by everyone’s favorite celebration treat! Step into You're Invited To Birthday Cake Mountain, where artist-in-residence Liza Fishbone transforms the joy of birthday cake into an immersive, art-filled adventure. Families can wander through a forest of glowing candles, decorate colorful “cakes” together, and discover how creativity can build whole new worlds. Each hands-on activity invites kids to tinker, imagine, and celebrate the magic of making-one sprinkle at a time.

Get ready to move, groove, and smile with Rhythm & Moves Dance Cardio, a 60-minute high-energy dance fitness class that combines fun, easy-to-follow choreography with upbeat music.No. No dance experience is necessary! Simple steps and uplifting music make this class fun and accessible for everyone, whether you're looking to boost your cardio endurance, improve coordination, or simply enjoy moving your body. Designed for all ages and abilities, this class is all about joy, energy, and community.

Duration: 60 minutes
Where: Will Naylor Riverwalk Plaza at The Tobin Center (weather permitting; indoor location TBA during inclement weather).
What to Bring/Wear: Comfortable workout clothes, supportive athletic shoes, and water to stay hydrated.
Free Parking: Free parking is available from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the surface lot located at the corner of 4th Street and Auditorium Circle (142 Auditorium Circle). Additional street parking may be available.

O’ Powa O’ Meng—”I came here, I got here, I’m still going”— is how Jody Folwell describes, in her Tewa language, her personal journey with pottery. A contemporary artist from Kha’p’o Owingeh (also known as Santa Clara Pueblo, in New Mexico), she is among the most significant and influential clay artists of her generation. Across five decades of artistic practice, Folwell has revolutionized contemporary Pueblo pottery with energetic, avant-garde innovations of form, content, and design that have influenced younger generations of Pueblo potters. This exhibition presents iconic works that demonstrate the arc of Folwell’s trailblazing career and place her within the canon of contemporary American art.

"O’ Powa O’ Meng: The Art and Legacy of Jody Folwell" is organized by the Fralin Museum of Art and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Major support for the national tour and exhibition catalogue is provided by the Terra Foundation for American Art. Curator-in-charge at the McNay Art Museum is Lauren Thompson, Curator of Exhibitions.

Support is provided by the Elizabeth Huth Coates Charitable Foundation of 1992; the Flora Crichton Visiting Artist Fund; Ewing Halsell Foundation, Louis A. and Francis B. Wagner Endowment; and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.

"Sandy Skoglund: Enchanting Nature" showcases the artist’s unconventional mix of sculpture, photography, and installation.

Known for her meticulous detail and playful repetition, Skoglund constructs tableaux with handmade objects, found materials, and live models to create visually striking scenes. The exhibition features two of her most celebrated installations—"Radioactive Cats" and "Revenge of the Goldfish"—alongside the debut of "Fresh Hybrid."

For the first time, Skoglund presents large-scale photographic enlargements pulled from details of her well-known images. Complementing the exhibition is an AT&T Lobby wallpaper installation with imagery drawn from Skoglund’s iconic 1981 photograph "Revenge of the Goldfish." The exhibition merges photographic imagery and gallery architecture, offering an entirely new way of experiencing Skoglund’s art.

The McNay’s commitment to the artist and her body of artworks spans over two decades, including exhibitions and acquisitions. "Enchanting Nature" is a deeply-rooted collaboration between the artist and the Museum, highlighting recurring themes in her art: the tension between the artificial and the organic, the environment, and interspecies kinship.

Published by Damiani Books in collaboration with the McNay and Paci Contemporary Gallery—and bearing the same title as the McNay’s exhibition—an accompanying book serves not only as the catalogue but also provides photographic documentation of the exhibition "Sandy Skoglund: Enchanting Nature." The 64-page full color publication includes an interview with Skoglund by Laura van Straaten, a former contributing editor and writer for many leading art publications and sites, as well as photographs of the artist’s wallpaper hung on the McNay’s gallery walls.

Come one, come all, to the library's annual Polar Express Festival! Enjoy model trains from the New Braunfels Railroad Museum, readings from The Polar Express, train rides, a seasonal project with the Comal Master Gardeners (while supplies last!), a scavenger hunt, cocoa, and more!

Adults can enjoy a Coffee Bar throughout the day. Take family holiday photos and help build a giant train track in our Children's Area! We'll have a very special visitor -- and a special activity just for teens, too!

The exhibition was juried by Patricia A. Karr, former owner of Artisans – A Texas Gallery in Fredericksburg, a respected space known for its vibrant curation of Texas-based fine art and fine craft. With years of experience managing exhibitions, Karr brings a keen eye for originality, quality, and accessibility, ensuring that Season of Lights reflects the very best of SAAL+M’s member artists.
Visitors are warmly invited to the Public Opening Reception on Sunday, November 16, from 3–5 PM, where they can meet the artists and purchase works directly from the exhibition—take-home purchases are available immediately.
As an added celebration, SAAL+M will host a Tax-Free Holiday Thank-You on Friday and Saturday, December 5 & 6, allowing visitors to shop tax-free in all galleries—including the Small Works Gallery and the Members Upstairs Gallery—thanks to the museum’s nonprofit status.
