Curated by Rigoberto Luna, the three exhibitions open onto three distinct worlds: one where spectacle turns symbols of power into play, one where our lives and actions extend beyond ourselves and become intertwined with those of others, and one where the archive is met not as history but as something living and present.

Step back in time at Christmas in Bethlehem, a free walk-through living village in Cibolo. Follow the star, register for the census, and visit the shops, the inn, and the manger. Dec 11-13, 6-8 PM nightly.

Register for the census just like Mary and Joseph, then wander the streets of Bethlehem. Visit the marketplace, the spice shop, Joseph's workshop, and the inn with no room, and end your journey at the nativity. St. Nicholas will be there every night, and there's plenty for kids to explore.

Every man prays in his own language

Two of San Antonio’s leading musical ensembles come together to celebrate the artistry and vision of Duke Ellington through selections from his Sacred Concerts. Led by acclaimed saxophonist BillyRay Sheppard, the Heritage Big Band is joined by the San Antonio Gospel Heritage Choir and guest vocalist Lori Williams to perform music from Ellington’s landmark concert series, first premiered in the 1960s. Conceived as a fusion of jazz, gospel, classical, blues, and sacred traditions, the Sacred Concerts reflect Ellington’s belief that sacred music could embrace both reverence and swing. The program features richly layered choral harmonies, expansive big band orchestrations, and solo performances, illustrating the breadth of Ellington’s musical language and spiritual expression. This collaborative performance highlights the distinctive talents of San Antonio’s jazz and choral communities while offering audiences the opportunity to experience one of Ellington’s most ambitious and deeply personal bodies of work.

This concert is presented in collaboration with the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum.

The Texas Exes Fredericksburg Chapter is offering multiple scholarships for graduating seniors from Gillespie County high schools who plan to enroll at The University of Texas Austin (UT) in Fall 2027. To be considered for Texas Exes Scholarships students must
1) submit their admissions application to UT Austin via ApplyTexas or the Common App.
2) access the Texas Exes Scholarship Application at texasexes.academicworks.com

3) complete the Texas Exes Entering Freshman General Scholarship Application.

The application opened September 1, 2026 and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2027. When completing the application, students must enter their UT EID correctly; if the EID is entered incorrectly, the student will not be eligible for a scholarship from the Chapter.

A student’s Gillespie County high school zip code will automatically match them to the Texas Exes Fredericksburg Chapter’s scholarship pool. No additional forms or steps are required.

Scholarship recipients will receive a monetary award plus a one-year membership to the student chapter of Texas Exes.

Proper tree care and water management contribute to tree health and water conservation. You will learn how environmental conditions, pests, and pathogens impact tree health, as well as discover practical strategies for identifying potential issues and supporting long-term tree vitality.

You will also learn how drought stress affects trees and explore water-wise practices, including proper irrigation, mulch application, and selecting trees suited to local climate conditions to reduce water use while supporting a healthy, resilient urban canopy. Finally, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights directly from certified arborists, drawing on their expertise to better understand local tree health challenges and best practices for maintaining healthy, resilient trees.

Whether you are a tree enthusiast, gardener, or community member, this event offers valuable knowledge to support the health and longevity of our local trees.

“Puro Conjunto: Border(less) Sound” celebrates how this uniquely Texan genre continues to thrive in San Antonio, the region, and beyond. The exhibit will highlight the people, places, and traditions at the heart of conjunto. Museum visitors will see conjunto pioneer Bruno Villarreal’s accordion, along with artifacts central to the genre—some of which will be on display for the first time--along with loans from the community and other organizations. Additionally, visitors are invited to get hands-on with a selection of musical instruments at an interactive station on the exhibit floor.

Selena Forever | Siempre Selena is a photographic exhibition featuring images by Texas photographer John Dyer, capturing Selena at a pivotal moment in her rise to stardom.
On View: June 4, 2026 – January 4, 2027

This exhibition features intimate and striking photographs captured during Selena’s rise to international stardom in the early 1990s. The exhibition offers an intimate look at an artist whose talent, charisma and determination transformed Tejano music and helped redefine representation for Mexican American women in popular culture. The featured images have never been displayed together, giving new context to Dyer’s work with Selena.

More than a music icon, Selena was a groundbreaking Tejana whose story reflected the spirit of the American West itself: bold, resilient, entrepreneurial and deeply connected to culture and community. Like generations of Tejanos who helped shape Texas through perseverance, innovation and cultural pride, Selena forged her own path while carrying the traditions of her community forward. Her legacy continues to inspire new generations, embodying the pioneering spirit, creativity and determination that remain central to the story of the West.

“Selena’s story is deeply connected to the cultural pride and artistic expression that define Tejano identity,” said Jackson. “Her influence transcends music and continues to inspire audiences across generations, making her an important part of this broader cultural conversation. The exhibition shares an icon who demonstrates the lasting influence of Tejanos – and Tejanas – in Texas and beyond.

Mindful Making invites visitors of all ages to slow down and engage in simple hands-on creativity designed to encourage reflection, focus, and presence. Led by Ruby City’s Visitor Services team, this drop-in program offers a welcoming and accessible environment where participants can explore making as a mindful practice while connecting more deeply with themselves, one another, and the ideas explored throughout the galleries.

Inspired by artworks on view and the contemplative atmosphere of Ruby City and Chris Park, each session encourages curiosity, experimentation, and creative expression without pressure or expectation. Guests are welcome to join at any time during the program and stay as long as they like. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
