Tuesday Musical Club

The Junior Tuesday Musical Club has been mentoring and providing performance opportunities for young classical performers for a century. Some of this year's students stopped by the KPAC studios to share music and chat with host Barry Brake — listen at the link!

The final performance of the Tuesday Musical Club's 100th Artist Series season brought tenor Lawrence Brownlee to town. Performing in front of an enthusiastic crowd, he and pianist Kevin Miller shared new music from their "Rising" album, featuring contemporary Black composers, classics and hidden gems of Italian opera, and a beautiful gospel tune for an encore. Organist Nathan Laube says the instrument at Trinity Universtiy's Parker Chapel "wears many, many hats very well, and so for this recital he was able to go broad and adventurous with his programming, including his own transcription of Franz Liszt's B minor piano sonata, a beautiful piece, but challenging for performers.

Founded in 1901, the Tuesday Musical Club in 1923 expanded from a social club to a presenting organization, and for 100 years has brought stellar talent to San Antonio to perform through its Artist Series.

For three decades, the Eroica Trio has wowed audiences with their stellar musicianship and style. Making a return appearance in San Antonio for the Tuesday Musical Club's 100th (!) Artist Series, the trio performed music by Bach, Mendelssohn, and the swinging “Café Music.”
