Photography InternSaile Aranda is a communications senior at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She is the photo editor of award-winning student newspaper The Mesquite. She also volunteers for SPJ’s 2023 “Best Ongoing Student Magazine” El Espejo as a photographer. She enjoys going to museums and reading in her free time. Saile looks forward to pursuing a career in photography and journalism after graduating in the Spring 2025 semester.

Hemisfair’s Civic Park Phase 2 was officially completed and opened to the public on March 6. Hemisfair is a park district that features Yanaguana Garden, Civic Park and Tower Park and was the site of the 1968 World’s Fair.

Downtown San Antonio is glowing with holiday spirit. Buildings, light poles, trees and parks are festooned with wreaths, ribbons, and colorful lights.

Scores of horned demons marched down King William, some on stilts, with lanterns or whips, along with a few familiar Santa’s, before a massive crowd of thousands of curious onlookers. Joining them were witches, curanderos and classical depictions of St. Nicholas.
