Challenging the myths and exploring the reality of cattle drive cowboys

Ways To Subscribe

The cowboy is a figure in the America mythos born out of the great cattle drives. The popular culture cowboy became a white knight of the plains and outshined the real dusty trail poke.

Tim Lehman, a professor of history at Rocky Mountain College, writes about it in his book Up The Trail: How Texas Cowboys Herded Longhorns and Became an American Icon. It’s published by Johns Hopkins University Press.
