Bluesy grooves, gospel-style group vocals, & commanding vocals

Charles Ray “Gypsy” Mitchell was born in Dallas, TX in 1952. At the age of 17, he formed the innovative gospel funk group The Relatives with Rev. Gean and Tommie West, co-writing, arranging, and playing guitar on their first two singles: “Speak to Me” b/w “Walking On” (Lewis Records) and “Don’t Let Me Fall” b/w “Rap On” (Hosanna Records). Gypsy’s unique guitar sound can be attributed to an open tuning, effects pedals, and a singular synthesis of the styles of his greatest heroes: Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix and Cal Valentine.

In 2021, after being visited by the late Rev. Gean West in a dream, he was inspired to share a lifetime of original compositions with Zach Ernst and Matthew Strmiska (founding members of Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears), both of whom worked with Gypsy on contemporary Relatives recordings in the mid-2010s. His debut album was released to widespread acclaim in 2024 via the French label Modulor Music.

The Texas Exes Fredericksburg Chapter is offering multiple scholarships for graduating seniors from Gillespie County high schools who plan to enroll at The University of Texas Austin (UT) in Fall 2027. To be considered for Texas Exes Scholarships students must
1) submit their admissions application to UT Austin via ApplyTexas or the Common App.
2) access the Texas Exes Scholarship Application at texasexes.academicworks.com

3) complete the Texas Exes Entering Freshman General Scholarship Application.

The application opened September 1, 2026 and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2027. When completing the application, students must enter their UT EID correctly; if the EID is entered incorrectly, the student will not be eligible for a scholarship from the Chapter.

A student’s Gillespie County high school zip code will automatically match them to the Texas Exes Fredericksburg Chapter’s scholarship pool. No additional forms or steps are required.

Scholarship recipients will receive a monetary award plus a one-year membership to the student chapter of Texas Exes.

We show up to fund critical research and provide life-saving patient support for those fighting this disease every day. You're not just walking, you're giving someone more moments with those they love.

The MORE THAN PINK Walk, Susan G. Komen’s largest fundraising event series, evolved from the Race for the Cure in 2018.

With inclusive and accessible options for people of all ages and abilities – including breast cancer survivors, those currently in treatment for breast cancer and people living with metastatic breast cancer – the Walk provides participants the opportunity to come together and connect in meaningful ways.

There is no fee to register for the MORE THAN PINK Walk, but we encourage participants to fundraise to support Komen’s work to end breast cancer.

Blanquita is an interdisciplinary artist and business leader from San Antonio, Texas. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Studio Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and studied painting at The Art Students League and the New York Studio School.

The King William Association is hosting the Annual King William Area Yard Sale on Saturday, October 17, from 9:00AM until 2:00 PM. Over 40 homes are expected to participate across the area, featuring items like antiques, pottery, art, furniture, china, collectibles, and more.

In conjunction with the yard sale, the association will be partnering with South Texas Blood and Tissue to host a Blood Drive at our offices at 122 Madison St. The Bloodmobile will be parked in the KWA parking lot, which is behind the building off of Turner St.

Maps and information on the sale will also be available on the day of the event at 122 Madison.

“Divine Identity,” celebrates the sacredness of queer folks of faith by transforming their portraits into sacred icons. Inspired by other artist’s interpretations of modern day saints, such as art by painter Kelly Latimore and photographer Gabriel Garcia Roman, this project reclaims the traditional sacred art form of iconography to honor and uplift queer individuals.Visit www.divineidentity.myportfolio.com to view the series.

Salgu Wissmath (they/them) is a queer nonbinary Korean-American photographer based in San Antonio, Texas and Sacramento, California. Their work has been published in The San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, Texas Tribune, San Antonio Magazine, among others. Their personal work explores the intersections of mental health, queer identity, and faith from a conceptual documentary approach and they are committed to documenting the LGBTQIA+ community from a decolonialized lens.

This Oktoberfest inspired festival will be held on the main plaza in Boerne and will be complete with doggy dash races, a dog costume contest, local beer vendors, music, food trucks, pet adoptions from local rescues, a petting zoo, and more.

Come hang out for the day to support a great cause and local small businesses! 

“Puro Conjunto: Border(less) Sound” celebrates how this uniquely Texan genre continues to thrive in San Antonio, the region, and beyond. The exhibit will highlight the people, places, and traditions at the heart of conjunto. Museum visitors will see conjunto pioneer Bruno Villarreal’s accordion, along with artifacts central to the genre—some of which will be on display for the first time--along with loans from the community and other organizations. Additionally, visitors are invited to get hands-on with a selection of musical instruments at an interactive station on the exhibit floor.
