“Puro Conjunto: Border(less) Sound” celebrates how this uniquely Texan genre continues to thrive in San Antonio, the region, and beyond. The exhibit will highlight the people, places, and traditions at the heart of conjunto. Museum visitors will see conjunto pioneer Bruno Villarreal’s accordion, along with artifacts central to the genre—some of which will be on display for the first time--along with loans from the community and other organizations. Additionally, visitors are invited to get hands-on with a selection of musical instruments at an interactive station on the exhibit floor.

Mindful Making invites visitors of all ages to slow down and engage in simple hands-on creativity designed to encourage reflection, focus, and presence. Led by Ruby City’s Visitor Services team, this free drop-in program offers a welcoming and accessible environment where participants can explore making as a mindful practice while connecting more deeply with themselves, one another, and the ideas explored throughout the galleries.

For this session, visitors are invited to participate in two creative activities inspired by works in Sensing Meaning: Abstract Painting. In Ruby City’s main gallery, participants will explore the work of Michael Lazarus by creating hand-traced cutouts and patterns to form their own abstract compositions. In Chris Park, guests can experiment with watercolor techniques inspired by works by Spencer Finch, Pablo Picasso, and Francesco Clemente, exploring color, composition, and new ways of interpreting the world through abstraction.

Guests are welcome to drop in at any time and stay as long as they like. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.

Create mixed media collage art in honor of a loved one or a cherished memory. Choose and place your loved ones in places you never imagined they could occupy. Transcend the traditional aesthetic of honoring our loved ones through typical photos and allow yourself to imagine and use numerous sensory expressions.

*Please bring 2-4 scanned photos of your loved one(s) to use in the collage.*

Mozart’s luminous concerto—presented here in its intimate chamber form—marks a new chapter in his creative life. Khachaturian’s vibrant trio blends folk influence with rhythmic vitality, full of color and energy. Bloch’s powerful quintet, written in the aftermath of World War I, wrestles with turmoil while reaching toward renewal. Together, these works trace a path from clarity and invention through intensity to hard-won rebirth.

Join us for Zine Lab Monthly to learn about zines and the basics of creating your own self-published works! This month we'll have special guest taking over -- local artist smittenkittentx!

smittenkittentx has been a long time resident of San Antonio, Texas and will offer an introductory class on zine making which will offer some hands on experience with paper folders, paper joggers, specialized staplers, as well as a digital and manual layouts.

Craft and art supplies will be provided for use during the program, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

A zine (pronounced ZEEN) is an independently published magazine or booklet. Using provided supplies, folks can create their own artistic mini books to express themselves and tell their own stories.

Participants are welcome to donate a copy of their zine to be included in our SAPL Zine Collection which is available for public use at Central Library and showcases materials written by, about, and for our community.

With an impressive body of work spanning the course of three decades, John Cusack has evolved into one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and respected actors of his generation, garnering both critical acclaim as well as prestigious accolades for his dramatic and comedic roles.

Most recently, Cusack appeared in the WWII spy film “Fog of War,” playing Robert, a conflicted intelligence officer navigating moral ambiguity during the war; “Detective Chinatown 1900,” a historical Chinese blockbuster directed by Chen Sicheng and Dai Mo; and Chinese espionage thriller “Decoded,” which focused on wartime code-breaking and intelligence.

In 2020, Cusack was seen in Prime Video’s SciFi series, “Utopia,” in which he stars as Dr. Kevin Christie, a charismatic, media-savvy, and brilliant biotech mind who wants to change the world through science. “Utopia” is based on Dennis Kelly’s British series of the same name and highly acclaimed author Gillian Flynn served as executive producer and showrunner.

Fiesta Noche del Rio is a spectacular outdoor performance featuring live music, singing and dancing in the beautiful Arneson River Theatre in La Villita on the San Antonio River Walk. Alamo Kiwanis Club produces the show each summer to benefit local children’s charities, and the show is updated each year. Enjoy the Mariachis, Flamenco guitar, music, singing, dancing, bright costumes and a cool drink or snack as you help support children’s charities through your attendance.

Fiesta Noche del Rio performances are on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m. at the Arneson River Theatre (418 Villita St.) from June 5 through August 1, but we recommend arriving early to get a great seat. It’s a fun show for the whole family and a San Antonio tradition since 1957.

On this guided bird tour around the various habitats of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, guests will see at least 30-50 different bird species with our expert guide. Travelling by both car and by foot to access as many areas as possible, this tour is best suited for the birder age 15+ as it can last up to four hours, though you may leave at any time. Tours are limited. Bring your binoculars, bottle for water, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and bug spray.

As the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) celebrates 30 years of stewardship on June 28th, we invite residents, students, businesses, and organizations from Atascosa, Bexar, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, Medina, and Uvalde counties to help us look to the future by showcasing how you're managing the drought. Whether you're collecting rainwater, composting, using drip irrigation, or embracing native plants—we want to see it!
