Community Calendar

The Boerne Book Festival will take place on the grounds of the Patrick Heath Public Library on Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Featured authors include John Bradshaw, Stephanie Elizondo Griest, Mari Mancusi, James Wade and more. Featured topics include Hill Country Baseball, Texas Folklore, Local and Regional Art, and an Elmer Kelton Centennial discussion. Participating organizations on the grounds of the book festival include The Writers' League of Texas, and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

Texas author Sean Bridges will be at The Twig Book Shop @ The Historic Pearl Brewery on Saturday October 03, signing copies of his new novel On the Bayou and his San Antonio based thriller Gunbarrel Highway.

The exhibition Exquisite Entropy: Photographs by Trish Simonite, 1972 – 2025 offers audiences the opportunity to enjoy exemplary works from multiple periods produced across Simonite’s celebrated career. Curator Paula Owen has chosen 125 works that present Simonite’s fascination with the paradoxes that historical narratives may carry forward information from the past into new contexts of meaning and that photographic images may inspire new contemplation far beyond the time and place of their creation. As a transnational artist, Simonite’s transformations of scenes and elements of natural and built environments from the English countryside, Greek islands, and Texas honky tonks.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the journey of Tango; from the roots of Argentine Tango to its evolution into the ballroom style known as American Tango.

In this engaging, beginner-friendly progressive experience, you’ll learn the history behind both styles while building foundational steps, posture, and connection, week by week. Discover how the movements of one influenced the other as you grow in confidence and skill.

No previous experience needed just curiosity and a willingness to move.

Link for registration (all dance classes) is on the 9/5/26 calendar listing. This is a progressive dance instruction series and attendance at all or most of the classes is preferred. Class dates are Saturdays, September 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 12-1 PM. Classes will take place in the foyer which is located in front of the auditorium inside Central Library.

This beginner-friendly workshop teaches you the basics of layout design, journaling techniques, and decorative elements. Just bring 3-6 printed photos and memorabilia (ticket stubs, notes, etc.). Basic supplies are provided but you’re also welcome to bring your own (stamps, stickers, washi tape, markers, etc.).

*Teens and adults welcome. Attendance limited to the first 10 people.*

Join the San Antonio Public Library at our Latino Collection & Resource Center for the return of Besos & Books, our annual celebration of Latinx voices in romance for Hispanic Heritage Month.

This year, Besos & Books Vol. 2 shines a spotlight on Queer Latinx Romance, celebrating stories that center queer love, identity, community, and the many ways romance helps us see ourselves reflected on the page.

We're excited to welcome USA Today bestselling author Gabriella Gamez, whose Librarians in Love series has delighted readers with heartfelt, funny, and wonderfully messy romances featuring Mexican American and queer characters. Returning for a second year, Gabby continues to champion stories where everyone deserves their happily ever after.

Joining her is acclaimed author Jonny Garza Villa, whose award-winning novels including Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun, Ander & Santi Were Here, Canto Contigo, and their debut adult romance Futbolista, have earned recognition from the Stonewall Book Awards, the Pura Belpré Awards, and Kirkus Reviews for their authentic portrayals of queer Latinx love, family, and identity.

Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the authors during a book signing.

Books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Nowhere Bookshop.

MusicBEAT's Fall Fest is more than a festival; it's a mission-driven celebration that empowers youth, supports the arts, and uplifts families through music, education, and community.

• MusicBEAT’s “Reach for the Stars” Gala serves as our major fundraiser. It will showcase local, national, and international artists from all art forms. The program will include live performances, raffles, special guest recognitions, on-site caricatures, dance floor access, a Halloween Custome Contest, and traditional cuisine. It is semi-formal attire.
  
• MusicBEAT’s Toy Drive collects donations and age-appropriate, new toys for children and families experiencing financial hardship during the Holiday season. Its kick-off is scheduled on Friday, November 7th, 8-10 am at Walmart, 1603 Vance Jackson, San Antonio, Texas 78213. Join us!
  
• The Rising Star Scholarships Program awards scholarships to outstanding high school students pursuing studies in the arts, helping them take the next step towards their dreams.
  
• “Palettes for Painters” Art Supplies Drive supplies professional art tools to Freshman students entering a Visual Arts Magnet School Program to ensure that creativity isn’t limited by financial hardship, helping them take the next step toward their dreams.
  
• “Feel the Beat” Musical Instruments Giveaway provides middle school students from low-income families with their very first instruments as they begin their journey in band or music programs.
