We are pleased to announce Lauri Firstenberg as our Guest Curator for the Spring 2027 International Artist-in-Residence Program!

Los Angeles-based curator, art historian, and producer Lauri Firstenberg returns to Artpace after serving as Guest Curator in 2008, when she selected artists Mark Bradford, William Cordova, and Marcos Ramirez ERRE. With more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit arts sector, she founded IF Innovation Foundation, which supports the intersection of art and film and transforms philanthropy into film. She is currently adapting Jennifer Bartlett’s daughter Alice Carrière’s memoir 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨/𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨/𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦, as well as a slate of artist documentaries.

Lauri will present a Curator Talk at Artpace on Thursday, October 29, from 6-8PM, offering insight into her career, curatorial approach, and early vision for the Spring 2027 residency. This talk is free and open to the public.

The Texas Exes Fredericksburg Chapter is offering multiple scholarships for graduating seniors from Gillespie County high schools who plan to enroll at The University of Texas Austin (UT) in Fall 2027. To be considered for Texas Exes Scholarships students must
1) submit their admissions application to UT Austin via ApplyTexas or the Common App.
2) access the Texas Exes Scholarship Application at texasexes.academicworks.com

3) complete the Texas Exes Entering Freshman General Scholarship Application.

The application opened September 1, 2026 and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2027. When completing the application, students must enter their UT EID correctly; if the EID is entered incorrectly, the student will not be eligible for a scholarship from the Chapter.

A student’s Gillespie County high school zip code will automatically match them to the Texas Exes Fredericksburg Chapter’s scholarship pool. No additional forms or steps are required.

Scholarship recipients will receive a monetary award plus a one-year membership to the student chapter of Texas Exes.

Crosspoint's Annual Leadership Symposium brings together professionals, advocates, community members, and thought leaders for a day of learning, dialogue, and shared purpose. Each year, we explore critical issues impacting our organization and the broader community — from behavioral health and recovery to homelessness, reentry, justice-involvement, and family support. These workshop-style events are ticketed and designed to spark meaningful discussion, fresh insight, and actionable ideas that strengthen our collective response to community need.

This year’s theme will examine how enhanced cross-system collaboration—including the potential development of a Criminal Justice Coordinating Council—can strengthen our community's capacity to provide effective, coordinated support for individuals in recovery.

“Divine Identity,” celebrates the sacredness of queer folks of faith by transforming their portraits into sacred icons. Inspired by other artist’s interpretations of modern day saints, such as art by painter Kelly Latimore and photographer Gabriel Garcia Roman, this project reclaims the traditional sacred art form of iconography to honor and uplift queer individuals.Visit www.divineidentity.myportfolio.com to view the series.

Salgu Wissmath (they/them) is a queer nonbinary Korean-American photographer based in San Antonio, Texas and Sacramento, California. Their work has been published in The San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, Texas Tribune, San Antonio Magazine, among others. Their personal work explores the intersections of mental health, queer identity, and faith from a conceptual documentary approach and they are committed to documenting the LGBTQIA+ community from a decolonialized lens.

“Puro Conjunto: Border(less) Sound” celebrates how this uniquely Texan genre continues to thrive in San Antonio, the region, and beyond. The exhibit will highlight the people, places, and traditions at the heart of conjunto. Museum visitors will see conjunto pioneer Bruno Villarreal’s accordion, along with artifacts central to the genre—some of which will be on display for the first time--along with loans from the community and other organizations. Additionally, visitors are invited to get hands-on with a selection of musical instruments at an interactive station on the exhibit floor.
