This exhibit features 13 original artworks inspired by the theme “Peace Begins Within.” The gallery invites visitors to pause, reflect, and explore how inner stillness contributes to harmony in daily life and the wider world. Presented in honor of the International Day of Peace, the display is open to all library visitors and runs for five weeks until September 29,2026.

• Identity theft prevention; account security best practices
• What to do if you suspect fraud.

What’s on the menu in your garden? Learn how the leaves, flowers, and fruits of native plants in your landscape determine the wildlife you attract. Lee Marlowe , Sustainable Landscape Ecologist of San Antonio River Authority, will highlight some of the best native plants and practices that attract and support a variety of guests in your garden. You’ll learn how to create a year-round garden buffet for bees, butterflies, birds and more during this presentation.

During this one-day retreat, we will explore poets who have not only bore witness to injustice, but who have done so from a place of hope and resistance. We will then build a “portfolio” of their own work to sustain and nourish our vision and activism in these times. Students are invited to participate in a reading and open mic featuring Demetria Martínez and Dr. Norma Cantú the following day.

Demetria Martínez is a poet, writer and immigrant rights activist born and raised in Albuquerque. Her most recent book, Poetry in Dangerous Times: Two Women, Two Worlds, was coauthored with Susan Sherman and published by Casa Urraca Press. Martínez’s other books include the widely translated novel, Mother Tongue (Ballantine). She is the recipient of a Luis Leal Award for Distinction in Chicano/Latino Literature, an American Book Award, and an International Latino Book Award.

Former AFS President, award winning poet and author, Dr. Norma Elia Cantú currently serves as the Norine R. and T. Frank Murchison Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at Trinity University in San Antonio, where she teaches courses in Latinx Studies, Folklore, and Creative Writing. Her creative writing focuses on the US-Mexico Border and includes her novels Canícula and Cabañuelas as well as a poetry collection, Meditación fronteriza.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the journey of Tango; from the roots of Argentine Tango to its evolution into the ballroom style known as American Tango.

In this engaging, beginner-friendly progressive experience, you’ll learn the history behind both styles while building foundational steps, posture, and connection, week by week. Discover how the movements of one influenced the other as you grow in confidence and skill.

No previous experience needed just curiosity and a willingness to move.

Class dates are Saturdays, September 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 12-1 PM. Classes will take place in the foyer which is located in front of the auditorium inside Central Library.

This beginner-friendly workshop teaches you the basics of layout design, journaling techniques, and decorative elements. Just bring 3-6 printed photos and memorabilia (ticket stubs, notes, etc.). Basic supplies are provided but you’re also welcome to bring your own (stamps, stickers, washi tape, markers, etc.).

On this guided bird tour around the various habitats of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, guests will see at least 30-50 different bird species with our expert guide. Travelling by both car and by foot to access as many areas as possible, this tour is best suited for the birder age 15+ as it can last up to four hours, though you may leave at any time. Tours are limited. Bring your binoculars, bottle for water, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and bug spray.
