12 noon - 3 p.m. Encore author Shaun McCoshum presents from his mostrecently published book, "Natural Habitats and Wildlife Gardening:Inviting Nature into Your Backyard":1. Ecological processes regulate habitats in healthy ecosystems. Nativeplants are an essential part of habitats that support insects andanimals, but vegetationalone does not provide the necessary resources for most creatures tocomplete their life cycles. During this talk, natural regulatingprocesses of habitats and resource creation are broken down with easyways we can mimic those events in our own yards.

2. Creating robust habitats in our gardens should include ecology toturn your backyard into a thriving haven for pollinators, birds, andother wildlife. How-to integrate key resources into gardens will bepresented. Examples for specific species will also be providedthroughout the talk to illustrate ways we can recreate vibrant,gorgeous, natural habitats in your own yard while appealing to neighborsand friends.

On this guided bird tour around the various habitats of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, guests will see at least 30-50 different bird species with our expert guide. Travelling by both car and by foot to access as many areas as possible, this tour is best suited for the birder age 15+ as it can last up to four hours, though you may leave at any time. Tours are limited. Bring your binoculars, bottle for water, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and bug spray.
