Enjoy films and talking about them with others, then join us for Cinema Talk with CineSanto Society at Central Library for film screenings and discussions. The current film series topic is The Cost of Ambition. Where does it all lead? A rise? A fall? Inevitably there is some cost to pay. So, whether you are a casual moviegoer or seasoned film buff, you are more than welcome to join these lively discussions.

Join us for this year’s Summer Film Series: Siempre Tejano, as we prepare for our upcoming exhibition “Tejanos: Legacy”.

This summer we will be showing three films highlighting Johnny Canales, Selena Quintanilla and their impact on Golden Age of Tejano Music.
This month’s Film: “Selena y Los Dinos” (2025)

Selena Quintanilla’s journey from performing at local events to becoming the “Queen of Tejano Music” with her family band Selena y Los Dinos, culminating in sold-out stadium tours, is chronicled through personal archive footage.

Presented in partnership with the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI).

This year we highlight the ladies of silent comedy! The evening begins with a presentation about Alice Howell, the nearly forgotten frizzy-haired slapstick comic whose on-screen working girl character always found herself in awkward situations. Audience in attendance will then experience Howell’s comedic genius with a screening of three of her earliest shorts! The evening concludes with our popular “Silent Expressions” activity where people can act out a still of their own silent film!

Drinks and snacks will be available for a suggested donation. (All ages welcome. In the Mathis Gallery.)
