You might think that you need to have an Ancestry membership to research your family history, but you don't have to spend any money at all. Join us to learn about sites to help you research your genealogy for (almost) free!

Join Thousand Oaks Library for a plant swap! We welcome potted plants, plant cuttings, seeds, and gardening supplies to trade or give away. All plants must be healthy and free of pests and disease. Limit 2 free items per person. There will also be a short, fun craft activity to enjoy! All ages are welcome to attend.

The Zodiac Star Party is a FREE, ALL-AGES, FAMILY-FRIENDLY astrology themed party celebrating the SUN SIGN of VIRGO this month. Everyone is invited to dress up in the COSMIC COLOR of BRONZE (or green), enjoy COSMIC CAKE (while it lasts), LIVE MUSIC, a FREE RAFFLE and the great eats and drinks served at SA’s nationally renown The Cove. Hosted by Sara Flatten, Kelli King, Miss Neesie, The Cove, Over the Top Cake Supplies & Robot Monster Guitars & Collectibles. Our guest performer this month is the extraordinary Carol Elliott. Usher in the season of bold flavors and unforgettable bites during Culinaria’s Summer Restaurant Weeks, taking place from Saturday, August 9 to Saturday, August 23. Guests can enjoy a limited-time $55 three-course dinner menu that celebrates the richness of local ingredients and refined Texas cuisine. Menu highlights for the dinner include:
Appetizer: Scallop Ceviche featuring Diver Scallop, Mezcal, Lime, Cucumber Pearl
Entree: Chile Dusted Pork Tenderloin featuring Ancho Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Broccolini, Mole Jus
Dessert: Frozen Horchata featuring a Vanilla sponge, "Hot" Chile Chocolate, Polvorón Crumb

Step up to the mic with San Antonio Public Library for some high-energy poetry! Whether you're spitting rhymes and slinging stanzas or snapping along with the crowd, this two-round slam promises powerful performances and prizes for the top three poets. URBAN-15 seeks talented drummers with experience from high school, college, or any musical group for the 2025-2026 season of performances. These performances include a wide variety events, including Dia de Los Muertos, Luminaria, and International Festivals. Interested drummers are invited to call (210) 736-1500 or email events@urban15.org, and to join URBAN-15’s drum ensemble during open rehearsals Thursdays at 7pm at 2500 S. Presa. This Open Call is FREE to join, and open to all members of the community regardless of age, race, or gender identity.

Drummers enrolled into the Open Call will practice the ensemble’s various performance styles and genres, including Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and experimental rhythms. Final selections to join the URBAN-15 Percussion Ensemble will take place at the end of the Open Call period during a formal tryout. Those selected to join will be expected to participate in the majority of the season’s performances as well as perform in gear such as illuminated costumes, helmets, and masks alongside URBAN-15’s Dance Ensemble. URBAN-15’s ensembles are close knit groups, and may lead to professional connections within or outside the musical sphere. Ensemble members are also asked to volunteer for miscellaneous duties such as parking assistance, kitchen aid, guest ushering, and more.
