Made In S.A., A Tricentennial Film Series

In his essential book on San Antonio filmmaking, “Texas Hollywood,” author and film historian Frank Thompson writes:

“Ever since the silent era, five years rarely go by without San Antonio being touted as ‘the Next Hollywood.’ San Antonio has just about everything that a movie location requires—beautiful countryside, interesting architecture, fascinating history, unique structures, good weather, talented people, a helpful and cooperative Film Commission; the list goes on and on.”

Frank Thompson's words ring true today, with San Antonio not only offering locations to fit any storyline, but also incentives to entice productions to come to town. It may even surprise you to learn that IMDb currently lists close to 900 productions as having been shot in San Antonio.

As San Antonio celebrates its Tricentennial, Texas Public Radio is partnering with the San Antonio Film Commission, a division of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture and Slab Cinema to present six free outdoor screenings of films shot in San Antonio, at (or very nearby!) their actual filming locations. From the silent era to modern times, come see some of our favorite movies that show off San Antonio on the big screen! We’ll open each screening with a brief talk about the film’s history and its filming locations.

Schedule

Show times at dusk, depending on sunset each day.

All screenings are open seating, BYOC (bring your own chair), and available space is on a first-come, first-served basis. Mark the dates on your calendar, and watch TPR's Facebook Events page for more details.

Come celebrate over 100 years of filmmaking in San Antonio during our city’s 300th anniversary!
