Are You A Poet And Don't Know It? Enter Our Contest

How do you love Texas Public Radio? Count the ways and send us a poem about it! TPR is having a poetry contest this fall as part of our on-air membership campaign. You’re invited to get your creative juices flowing and submit a poem about your love for TPR in one of four categories:

  1. Single-verse sonnet
  2. Haiku
  3. Limerick
  4. Dr. Seuss style (please no more than 14 lines)

Select poems will be read on air and/or shared through social media during the TPR fall 2014 membership campaign, October 17-24. At the end of the week, the TPR staff will choose one winner in each category through a completely arbitrary process we are calling “our favorites.” Each winner will have his/her poem read on TPR's "Morning Edition" and receive a Day Sponsorship!

Email your poetry submissions to lovepoems@tpr.org.

Here are a few examples to start you off:

There once was a man from Poteet, Who thought public radio was neat. So he pledged a strawberry, Tuned into Garrison’s "Prairie," Now his life is complete.

Or:

My car may not fetch me much money Since the radio just up and went funny  Seems the dial has froze At 89.1 on the nose But the programming still makes my days sunny.

And finally:

One news Two news Red news Blue news Me news You news Old news New news This one is from StoryCorps This one is from Singapore Say! What a lot Of news galore. Yes. Some are red and some are blue. And some have shades of purple, too. Some are sad. And some are glad. But they never talk like they are mad. Why are they Sad and glad, not mad? I think it’s cuz They’re fair, egad!
