El Paso is a border town with a predominately Hispanic population and a culture linked to both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. And now the community feels like it is being targeted because of that.

A fire that started in Mexico on Tuesday jumped the Rio Grande soon after and ignited fires on the U.S. side of the river in Big Bend National Park, causing damage to historic buildings and forcing site closures throughout the southern pocket of the sprawling West Texas park.

This year, you might find Santa’s village – or something like it – in a retrofitted RV outside the True Value hardware store in Alpine.

You won’t find any reindeer inside. No tinsel or Christmas lights. Just a ham radio on a countertop. But that’s all you need to talk to Santa.

Congressional District 23 is one of the longest in the country — it takes eight hours to drive across, from San Antonio almost to El Paso.

But now a look at the issues that energize this swing district.

Congressional District 23 is often considered one of the few swing districts in the state, and it’s partly because of its sprawling size.

From Marfa Public Radio:

Late Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed a proclamation directing the deployment of National Guard troops as a quote “immediate deterrent” to illegal immigration along the U.S.- Mexico border.

This comes after days of tough talk from President Trump on immigration enforcement, including Tweeting that he’d secure the border through military force until his proposed border wall is complete. The news is being met with some mixed reaction on Texas’ southern border.
