Oct 25 Saturday
The Briscoe is excited to invite guests and members of the museum to participate in our community Ofrenda (Altar) in celebration of Dia de los Muertos.
The Day of the Dead Holiday is thought to have grown from Indigenous origins blending with European traditions in Mexico and today is a national symbol of Mexican and Mexican-American heritage.
The Briscoe’s Ofrenda commemorates loved ones of the museum’s staff, community and the West. Museum guests and members are invited to add photos of lost loved ones and your personal offering.
Join San Antonio's original non-profit makerspace, 10BitWorks, as we celebrate 15 years of innovation, and launch our critical modernization campaign!
This is a fun, family-friendly event designed to inspire all ages:
Educational Fun: Explore the world of making with live equipment demonstrations (welding, 3D printing, electronics) and guided tours of our facility.
Creative Community: Meet local artists and entrepreneurs at the Member Product Displays and participate in our fun Maker Costume Challenge!
Support Local: Enjoy food and drinks from local vendors and participate in our Silent Auction featuring unique, member-made items.
Fundraising Mission: Your attendance and donations directly support our $15,000 Transition Fund—the vital goal needed to secure our move to a climate-controlled facility, ensuring 10BitWorks remains a safe, stable hub for creative education for the next 15 years.
The event itself is free and open to the public. This maintains our commitment to accessibility and community engagement.
However, the celebration serves as the launch for our critical Modernization Campaign. We are asking attendees for a suggested donation of $15 upon registration (a "Giver's Ticket") to help us achieve our $15,000 Transition Fund goal.
All funds raised through donations will go directly toward securing the new lease and professional moving costs for our new climate-controlled facility.

This trip includes a visit to Adam and Peter Doeppenschmidts’ homesteads and to the grave site of Jacob Doeppenschmidt. There will also be a conversation and discussion with Sara Weidner Turner, descendant of Otto Carl Weidner, in the picnic area in front of the old ranch house. She was a frequent visitor to her grandparents’ house back in the 1960s and has many stories to tell about her time at the ranch. This area of the State Natural Area is not open to the public except for special occasions like this. More details regarding this visit will be provided at the presentation at the library.
