Agarita Ensemble To Fill Tuesday Musical Club With A Unique Spanish Sound
The Tuesday Musical Club offers a unique Spanish-themed performance from Agarita next to the Japanese Tea Garden on Tuesday, April 2.
Pianist Daniel Anastasio explained his group's approach to music.
“Agarita's a chamber ensemble we formed in San Antonio," he said. "Sarah Silver, violin, Marisa Bushman viola, me on piano, Daniel, and Ignacio Gallego on cello. We're a combination of San Antonio Symphony members and natives of San Antonio. And we're really trying to do a combination of classical and contemporary music."
They also try to mash up different disciplines within the world of art itself.
"We've already brought together chefs, other musicians, visual artists, lighting artists, together on concerts for bigger-than-musical events,” Anastacio said. “We think that a concert should be more than just a musical event."
He said Tuesday's concert will offer music with a decidedly Spanish flavor.
"The Tuesday Musical Club concert is kind of a lecture concert, a shorter concert on April 2," he said. "And that's going to be a portrait of Spanish music and Latin American music."

Anastacio said Agarita really likes delivering what he calls “new experiences” to people.
"Our favorite kind of listeners are people who have never heard this kind of music before,” he said. “So we really want to bring the type of music that we offer and the type of events we offer to people who might not otherwise — or ever — experience it."
The Tuesday Musical Club performance hall is next to the Japanese Tea Garden, and admission to both the garden and to this performance is free.
