Attend A Live Taping Of 'Live At Jazz, TX'
Jazz, TX and Texas Public Radio are thrilled to announce our first full season of "Live at Jazz, TX," a Saturday night radio broadcast that will air on TPR stations beginning Saturday, September 16. "Live at Jazz, TX" will begin live-taping a full season of sixteen episodes on July 26, 2017. The show will feature Jazz, TX owner Doc Watkins along with special guests and will include an interview segment, audience Q&A, and plenty of music. Special guests will include Mariachis Las Coronelas, Sammy Miller and the Congregation, Rick Barroso, Aaron Prado, the King William Jazz Collective, NATIAO Latin Jazz, and the Dirty River Dixie Band, among others. The show will focus primarily on Texas Music and Texas Artists.
“I am so excited for this new series,” said Doc Watkins, musician and owner of Jazz, TX. “Having a full season of sixteen episodes gives us the opportunity to showcase a broad spectrum of Texas music, including Jazz, Blues, Salsa, Mariachi, Texas Swing, and Big Band. TPR is a huge supporter of the local music and arts scene of San Antonio, we could not have teamed up with a better organization. We hope to begin syndicating the show within the first year.”
Tapings will take place on Wednesday nights, starting July 26. Show time will be at 8:30 pm, and will carry the usual weeknight cover charge of $10. The July 26 show will feature Watkins and his 11-piece Orchestra. Mariachis Las Coronelas will perform on August 2nd.
Live at Jazz, TX will air on TPR’s 89.1 FM throughout South Texas every Saturday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting September 16, 2017.
Jazz, TX celebrates the full spectrum of South Texas music, focusing on Jazz, Blues, Big Band, Texas Swing, Salsa, Conjunto, and Americana. The 3,500-square-foot venue is located in the basement of the original Bottling Department at Pearl, and is a mix of an upscale jazz club with the grit of a traditional Texas dancehall. Jazz, TX not only includes music programming, but also has a full dinner and cocktail program. The kitchen is led by local chef Lorenzo Morales, who has worked with Arcade Midtown Kitchen, the Last Word, and Old Main Association. General Manager Jake Corney, well known for his time at Bohanan’s and for opening H&C Ice Co., oversees Jazz, TX and its cocktail program. Owner Doc Watkins is a local pianist, singer, bandleader, and composer, and has recorded six albums in his career so far. For more information on Jazz, TX, please visit jazztx.com.
