The high-stakes — and high-dollar — trustee election for the North East Independent School District returned San Antonio’s second largest school district to a solid moderate board majority.

Saturday’s municipal election is particularly high stakes for the North East Independent School District, and the most recent campaign filings show that candidates — and their donors — have put equally high levels of funding up in the hope of securing a win.

Two candidates are running to represent the Reagan High School cluster in NEISD's Single Member District 6.

Three candidates are running to represent the Johnson High School cluster in NEISD's Single Member District 5.

Two candidates are running to represent the MacArthur High School cluster in Single Member District 4.

Three candidates are running to represent the Roosevelt High School cluster in Single Member District 2.

Two candidates are running to represent the Churchill High School cluster in Single Member District 1.

TPR interviewed all 12 NEISD school board candidates, and attended forums for the candidates hosted by the North East Council of PTAs.

The NEISD school board election could tip the balance of control over San Antonio’s second largest district.

NEISD trustees adjourned Friday morning after motions to appoint three different candidates failed in split 3-3 votes.
