Mariachi Extravaganza

Mariachi Extravaganza kicked off its festival on Thursday with the National Vocal Competition Semifinals at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Students participated in a vocal battle of technique, projection and stage presence.

Roma High School’s Lorraine Garza was selected Grand Champion. Crystaly Leal came in first in the middle school division, and Leylanie Rodriguez was selected first in the high school division. Alexis Perez was chosen first in the college age category.

Each summer the producer of the Mariachi Extravaganza convenes a summer workshop for young singers to learn from those who have made a career of it.

The 28th annual Mariachi Extravaganza attracts about a thousand young people to compete for best of show.
