Tuesday, June 2
6:30 p.m. — Metro Health begins new study to test asymptomatic community members
Mayor Ron Nirenberg reported 2,882 cases, up 43 from yesterday. Of the new cases, 18 are from the community, one is from the jail, and five are from congregate settings. The additional 19 are still pending determination.
There have been no new deaths, and the total stands at 75.
There are 92 people in local hospitals. Of those, 35 are in intensive care and 21 are on ventilators. Nirenberg added that all progress and warning indicators are trending well for the city.
In the Bexar County jail, there are now only 87 positive cases, only two of which have symptoms — three inmates in the infirmary and none in the hospital.
County Judge Nelson Wolff said the jail still has about 300 inmates who should have been transferred to the prison system, bringing the total number of inmates to 3,458.
Metro Health Director Dawn Emerick explained that her department, with the help of UT Health, is trying to gauge how many asymptomatic people are COVID-19 positive in the community with a new study. Between today and yesterday, roughly 180 people volunteered to be tested, according to Emerick. Metro Health aims for 500 tests by the end of the week for their sample.
There will be two new pop-up sites this week, one at Blossom Athletic Center and one at Sunset Elementary. Both sites are open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

9:25 a.m. — Virtual public comments for city council
San Antonio City Council hosts its usual public comment session virtually starting June 3.
The public has four ways in which to participate:

- Leave a voice message at 210-207-6991.
- Request a live call-back at that same number, 210-207-6991.
- Or drop off written comments at the city clerk's office at 114 West Commerce St.
The city council is taking this action to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Public comment will take place immediately following the council's regularly scheduled B session meeting.
Monday, June 1
6:40 p.m.— 60% of confirmed cases have now recovered
Mayor Ron Nirenberg reported 2,839 cases, up nine from yesterday. Of the new cases, four are from the community, one from congregate settings and one from the jail. The three additional cases are pending determination.
There has been one new death, bringing the total to 75.
There are 93 people in the hospital, 39 in intensive care and 20 on ventilators.
Nirenberg reported that the city has reached a major milestone, with 60% of cases now recovered.
The city announced that Alamo Plaza will be closed again tonight until the morning — 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nirenberg said the action was a precaution since the area had become a setting for mischief after hours a couple of days ago.
Nirenberg also said there is concern for a surge in cases because of the recent protests. He encouraged people to continue to use safe practices if they are exercising their right to free speech in large public gatherings.
