San Antonio Blue Bell fans will have to travel a bit north or eastward to lay their hands on the first batch of ice cream that returns to store shelves in Texas. The creamery posted a video Monday saying it will start delivering ice cream on August 31.
Vice President Ricky Dickson appealed to customers for patience.
“We’re currently operating one production facility which limits our capacity to return to all markets at the same time. It’s kind of like trying to fill an Olympic-size swimming pool with a single garden hose. It can be done, but it’s just going to take some time,” Dickson said.
The first deliveries will go to the Houston area, west through Brenham and into the Austin and Hill Country area, as well as to parts of Alabama where the ice cream is being produced. The company likened the effort to its original expansion, which slowly made its way across the south east.
Hays County or eastward to Lavaca County may be the closest places to find Blue Bell when it returns to stores. The company has a list on its website with each of the five phases. It looks like San Antonio is in the third phase - but no timeline is given for each phase.
