The Big Give SA Invites The Hill Country And Sets A Lofty Goal For 2015

The second annual “Big Give S.A.” is a week away, and San Antonio non-profits are working to build momentum ahead of the big day on May 5.

Scott McAninch, Executive Director of the San Antonio Non-Profit Council, says the Big Give brings scores of local organizations together -- and demonstrates to communities how much they rely on and benefit from non-profit organizations.

McAninch says this year’s Big Give set a much higher goal because last year’s contributions came in at double their expectations -- and surprised everyone.

“We had goal of 300 non-profits. We had 467 participate. And bigger yet, we had a goal of a million dollars for the day and we raised over $2.1 million. We’re going to shoot for the moon and go for $4 million this year. And it’s a goal. And we all have to have lofty goals to go for. And why set it low when I think we can do it,” he said.

Twelve counties joined in the press conference at San Antonio City Hall Tuesday for the Big Give S.A. announcement. Their participation means the contributions will be shared across the Hill Country.

The Big Give is a 24-hour online fundraising event from midnight-to-midnight on May 5 and raises money for all kinds of non-profits including parks, The San Antonio Zoo, the arts, military services, animal groups, and religious organizations.  (In the interest of full disclosure, TPR will participate in the event again this year.)

More info about the event is available on our website or at TheBigGiveSA.org. Organizations are listed by subject and by county.
