Popular Farmers Market Moving To New Home At The Yard

Owners of the Quarry Farmers and Ranchers Market spent their last day in front of Whole Foods at the Quarry Sunday, and will re-open next week at 5300 McCullough.

Quarry Market management last month terminated their three-year agreement, forcing the popular market to find a new location.

Closing up the Brazos Valley Cheese booth at the Quarry farmers market for the last time, Susan Turner said her customers are happy about the new location at The Yard in Olmos Park.

"It's just been amazing to me - and I'm getting goosebumps talking about it - that the people have just been overwhelmingly supportive of us. Our customers say, 'We're going to go wherever you,'" she said.

Dave Lent, owner of the market, said he got several offers but chose to stay in the local community. He said The Yard is a good fit.

"It's more of an intimate setting. It's kind of off the road. There's trees. It's more conducive to a farmers market," he said.

Lent said the business owners at The Yard have expressed support for the market's move.

He is changing the name to The Yard Farmers and Ranchers Market and said it will open next Sunday in the railroad car section in back, leaving the front section for parking.
