On Tuesday Bexar County Commissioners will consider some of the contracts for renovation of San Pedro Creek.
The San Pedro Creek restoration project announced last May has been touted as the second River Walk for downtown. The project starts at Fox Tech and runs southward and ties into the trails at Mission Concepción.
County Judge Nelson Wolff said it will take over 40 acres out of the flood zone and make them developable.
“Every model that we have run, taxpayers will get paid back because of the increased valuation," Wolff said. "We already have one project going, and that’s [University of the] Incarnate Word’s medical school that’s going to be right up there where Fox Tech is."
Wolff said the project will create an urban linear park while containing the 100-year floodplain within the banks of the creek, and it will offer new development a part of the West Side that has previously been left out of improvement plans.
Initial cost estimates on the project came in at $175 million. Wolff said commissioners will hear a presentation Tuesday morning and could approve some of the contracts to complete the design of the project and move toward construction.
