Camp I-Wanna Pet Adoptions This Weekend

This is the weekend for Camp I-Wanna Pet for families who have been thinking of adopting.

With its admittedly corny catch-phrase, “a pet that will love you 's‘more' than anything,” Lisa Norwood with Animal Care Services said the city hopes to draw in more adoptive families than usual with Camp I-Wanna Pet this weekend only.

“We do a late-night, low-cost adoption event that runs Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 and we do $25 dog and puppy adoptions and $15 cat and kitten adoptions. And of course, the name of the game is finding homes for pets,” she said.

Norwood said the variety of events stimulate different families to come out an adopt a pet, and she says each family is given adoption guidelines so the city can make sure the pets are going to good homes.

“There was a national organization that did a study to determine if low-cost pet adoption or even free pet adoptions made a difference in terms of responsible pet ownership on the other end, and they didn’t find any difference,” she said.

Adoptions include the pet’s first vaccinations, sterilization, a microchip, de-worming and license.
