San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said Friday she now supports legal action to halt the conversion of an East Side warehouse into a 1,500-person immigration processing center. The announcement came on the eve of a protest march urging city officials to take a stronger stance against the planned ICE facility.

Opponents of the San Antonio ICE warehouse detention center are organizing a protest march on Saturday. They are hoping to force local officials to adopt a tougher stance against the facility and sue the federal government to prevent its opening.

The ICE detention center in Dilley, Texas, is again at the center of a national fight over the detention of migrant families and children. But for Tania Warner, the controversy is not abstract. It is something she says she lived through with her 7-year-old daughter.

Several lawmakers had previously called for the release of the family, who were detained at an Alamo Heights ISD school bus stop in April.

A federal judge in Fort Worth swore in a jury Monday for the trial of nine defendants accused in the nonfatal shooting of a police officer outside an ICE detention center July 4.
