A federal judge in Fort Worth swore in a jury Monday for the trial of nine defendants accused in the nonfatal shooting of a police officer outside an ICE detention center July 4.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Fred Biery was a harsh rebuke of the Trump administration.

Federal and state lawmakers and other advocates called for justice for migrant detainees, including children.

In the wake of two fatal shootings of civilians during federal immigration operations in Minneapolis this month, San Antonio Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro is calling for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be dismantled and for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to face impeachment.

A protest broke out Saturday at the ICE-run South Texas family detention complex in Dilley, where five-year-old Liam Ramos is being detained.

Members of the Texas National Guard have been deployed to San Antonio as well-publicized protests will continue in the city through the weekend.
