The San Antonio International Airport saw a 5 percent increase in travelers over a one-year period – from 7.9 million to 8.3 million people – and recorded 17 straight months of passenger growth, as of November 2017.
A new Airport System Development Committee appointed by Mayor Ron Nirenberg will launch a study of San Antonio's aviation-related assets this month.
Consisting of 21 representatives, the committee will consider strategies for the future of Port San Antonio, Stinson, and the San Antonio International Airport.
Along with gathering data and analyzing the region's needs, the effort is a bid to meet demand for corporate and business travel, which is needed to make the city more economically competitive.
Over the past two years, SAT added at least 20 non-stop destinations and worked with domestic airlines like Southwest and Frontier to expand the airport's reach and provide more options to consumers.
