Nearly 60 percent of us own smartphones in this country, which means our connection to our Facebook friends, our Twitter followers and our Instagram images are never ending. 

Our every thought and quip can be shared and hopefully get that precious "retweet" or "like." Our leisure time reading the news and interacting with the online world continues to crowd out work, real-world socialization and other leisure activities.

But why? And what do we lose?
