Uber and Lyft are currently operating outside of the City of San Antonio's ordinances regulating vehicles for hire, which regulates the Taxi and Limo service industry. District Eight City Council Member Ron Nirenberg is hoping to rewrite the ordinance to make room for the businesses, while making them play by some of the same rules as taxi cabs.
