The Source: Is Texas Corrupt? | Are Massive Retail IT Breaches The New Normal?

Center for Public Integrity

In the first segment:

Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell was indicted last week, former Mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin is in court for 21 counts of corruption and Jesse Jackson jr. resigned last year, but what does Texas look like?

A report card from the Center for Public Integrity gives us a dismal D+ in terms of our risk of corruption, last month it gave us an F for our judicial financial disclosures.

Is Texas corrupt? The answer might depend on where you sit, says Dr. James Henson, director of the Texas Politics Project and professor at the University of Texas - Austin. We'll talk to him about what the survey data shows him.

We'll also talk to Gordon Witkin, managing editor at the Center for Public Integrity, about what our grade means and what could happen in Texas without reforms

In the second segment:

More than 40 million people’s information was illegally accessed at Target stores nationwide, then it was Neiman Marcus and, over the weekend an Irving, Texas-based retailer, Michaels, said it might have been hacked.

Is our information safe? Do we care? A new Associated Press-GfK poll out today gives us some indications. we’ll talk about what they found. The short version: We are all freaked out, but don't really want to change our behavior.

Also, what could be the impacts of these massive breaches? Steve Ragan, writer at CSO Online says these may not be as big a deal as we think. He joins us to talk about what he means.

And what can you do to protect yourself before you get hit? Well, in this situation, not much, but there are a whole lot of other ways to have your data stolen. The Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security at UTSA studies this stuff and they have some tips.
