In the first segment:
Last week President Obama announced that he would be directing the Environmental Protection Agency to enforce stricter rules on new and existing coal plants, marking some of his more ambitious climate change efforts.
"We don't have time for a meeting of the flat earth society," remarked Obama at his June 25 press conference regarding why he would be going directly through the EPA as opposed to through congress for a deal on climate change.
In addition, the Supreme Court has said it will take up another case regarding coal pollution in the next session. Joel Mintz, author of the book "Enforcement at the EPA" joins us to talk about the political and organizational challenges to the agency with the increased scrutiny.
In the second segment:
Yesterday the rate for federal Stafford Loans, the loans that hundreds of thousands of students use every year for college, doubled.
Last week the Federal Reserve Bank of New York announcedthat 44 percent of college grads were underemployed. Should we be encouraging kids to take on such a heavy debt burden in the uncertain job markets of today? In short, is college still worth the investment?
Joining us to talk about this is Dr. Richard Vedder, director of the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. Also joining us is Jackie Claunch, president of Northwest Vista College, one of the Alamo Colleges.
