The Source: Summertime Heat Safety | 'The Takeaway' Comes To KSTX

Centers For Disease Control

In the first segment:

Every year 658 people die across the country from overheating and as the summer heats up we are all at risk of feeling the effects. Texas, California and Arizona make up 40 percent of all heat-related deaths. What can we do about it?  Who is at risk?

Caitlin Cervenka from Catholic Charities and Project Cool joins us to answer questions about their prevention program along with Dr. Gillian Schmitz, associate director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the UT Health Science Center.

In the second segment:

The state house is passing bills regarding abortion restrictions and we will check in with TPR's Ryan Poppe to get an update on the special session of the legislature.

In the third segment:

Texas Public Radio's daytime schedule is changing with the departure of "Talk of the Nation" from the NPR offerings. One show we are excited to add is "The Takeaway" with John Hockenberry. Hockenberry joins us to talk about the day's events, his show and his history in journalism.

* The Source airs at 3 p.m. on KSTX 89.1 FM - audio from this show will be posted by 5:30 p.m.
