Two Piano Recitals Celebrate KPAC's Anniversary

As part of KPAC’s 35th anniversary celebration, this week’s “Performance Saturday” features two piano recitals that were produced in honor of the milestone.

The first half of the program was recorded on March 25, 2018 at the home of Jeffrey Glass, MD, who hosted an intimate gathering of the “Class of 1982.” These classical music fans and donors were instrumental in the early success of KPAC (then at 90.9 FM) by giving of their time and talent, enabling the organization to grow and eventually merge with San Antonio Community Radio to create Texas Public Radio.

The performance featured six pianists performing a variety of duets on Glass’s personal Steinway. You can hear an excerpt in the audio link below of Nicole Narboni and Bruce Lin playing music by Georges Bizet:

The house concert is being paired up with another stellar recital featuring pianist Younggun Kim, who first came to the attention of San Antonio audiences at the 2012 San Antonio International Piano Competition. TPR invited Mr. Kim from his home in Toronto to visit sunny San Antonio in January to not only help judge our annual Sounds Like KPAC young talent competition, but to perform an afternoon recital at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for KPAC supporters.

The program includes music by Chopin, Poulenc, and the jazzy harmonies of Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin, and opens with the beautiful Myra Hess arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”

Thank you to everyone past and present who continues to keep KPAC a vital resource, engaging, educating, entertaining, and enlightening tens of thousands of listeners every week!

Hear the full recitals on Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on KPAC 88.3 FM and KTXI 90.1 FM.
