Guitarist Devan Jones brings his swinging jump blues sound to Jazz, TX on this week’s program. Originally from Tennessee, Jones is now based out of Austin, and says he found the city to be a welcoming place for his style.
“It's crazy to go to a town and people know the music you play,” Jones says. “Knoxville has an incredible straight ahead jazz scene. But I'm not a straight jazz player. I got really stuck in this ‘50s jump blues and boogie-woogie thing… as well as Nat Cole, Ray Charles, [and] early swing things. That wasn't quite the scene [in Knoxville].”
Devan Jones and his band tear through a selection of blues standards from the likes of Elmore James, Jimmy Rogers, and more in this set, recorded live at Jazz, TX.
