Multiple law enforcement agencies served numerous search and arrest warrants in the Seguin, San Marcos, San Antonio and Fort Worth areas Tuesday. The two-year investigation, called Operation Sinner, targets activities of a drug trafficking organization operating in the greater Seguin and San Antonio areas.
The investigation began as a local impact investigation targeting heroin and methamphetamine distributors in Seguin, according to Seguin Police Chief Terry Nichols.
It evolved into a long-term drug conspiracy inquiry that identified and disrupted the transportation network and source of supply of the narcotics being smuggled from Mexico into the greater South Texas area.
A federal grand jury in the Western District of Texas secured the indictment of 21 people in this investigation last week.
The charges range from conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine; possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime; aiding and abetting; and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments. As of Tuesday, 11 of these suspects were arrested.
"Prior to this operation today, this investigation's resulted in the arrest of 47 subjects, the seizure of approximately 22 kilograms of methamphetamine, one kilogram of cocaine, 400 grams of crack cocaine, and 145 grams of heroin,” Nichols said.
