From closures to gas prices, here's what you need to know about Independence Day in San Antonio.

CLOSURES

San Antonio City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4.

Recycling, organics recycling and garbage will be collected as usual.

There will be a parking meter holiday downtown, and lap swim will be available from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Heritage, Lady Bird Johnson, Southside Lions and Woodlawn.

More information is online at SanAntonio.gov.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

VIA Metropolitan Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on July 4. All information centers will be closed.

Information is at VIAinfo.net.

TRAVEL AND GAS PRICES

Gas prices in Texas crept up two cents in the last week to average $2.39 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

AAA Texas reports prices in San Antonio also rose two cents to average $2.29.

This marks the first time since mid-April that statewide gas prices increased week-to-week.

The price increase is due to a rise in crude oil prices and record-breaking demand for retail gasoline.

AAA predicts 3.5 million Texans will travel this Independence Day. That’s the most ever since AAA began forecasting July 4th holiday travel in 2000.
