San Antonio’s Animal Care Services is considering developing a new strategic plan and is asking for community input to develop it.
ACS has exceeded all expectations since implementing its last strategic plan in 2012.
City Councilman Roberto Trevino has proposed tightening the laws regarding how animals are restrained outside.
“We’re also addressing permitting as it pertains to excess animals and prohibited animals,” said ACS Assistant Director Shannon Sims. “One of the other key tenants is going to be breeding and selling of animals, and kind of how that relates to the way that we’re moving forward as a city, trying to be a more responsible culture moving forward.”
Staff will gather input on suggested changes to the Chapter 5 animal ordinance as well as feedback on ACS’ mission and changing role in the community.
Eight public input meetings are scheduled throughout the city over the next few months.
