Some members of the Hispanic community in Austin said they are afraid to go out on the street following a shooting by a federal agent in North Austin on Sunday afternoon.

During a Texas House Public Education Committee hearing Monday, school officials, educators and parents told legislators that the funding increase that came from HB2 has not been enough to save districts from cutting positions.

This is the latest move by the state to have more control over what is taught at public universities.

The affected departments include African and African Diaspora Studies; Mexican American and Latina/o Studies; Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies; and several others.
