Early Voting Kicks Off Today In House District 124 Run-Off

It’s been a season for elections, with at least five in as many months. Voters can now head to the polls from today through Friday to cast their ballots to fill the run-off for the Texas House District 124 seat. The runoff in the special election will be on April 21, a date announced on Thursday by Gov. Greg Abbott.

The seat became available when José Menédez was elected to the Texas Senate in another special run-off election.

Election fatigue, though, was reflected in the fact that though there are 88,000 registered voters in the district, only two percent turned out for the special election polls on March 31. With a little more than 40 percent of the vote, attorney Ina Minjarez led four candidates but since she didn’t have at least 50 percent, she and former San Antonio city councilwoman, Delicia Herrera, who had about 28 percent, had to campaign one more time in a run-off.

The five days of early voting will be conducted at three sites; while election day voting on the 21st will be conducted at 30 poll sites in the far West Side district.
