This is the major fundraiser for the Bulverde VFW Post. The Post provides support to the community, veterans and their families.

The Briscoe is excited to invite guests and members of the museum to participate in our community Ofrenda (Altar) in celebration of Dia de los Muertos.

The Day of the Dead Holiday is thought to have grown from Indigenous origins blending with European traditions in Mexico and today is a national symbol of Mexican and Mexican-American heritage.

The Briscoe’s Ofrenda commemorates loved ones of the museum’s staff, community and the West. Museum guests and members are invited to add photos of lost loved ones and your personal offering.

In this hands-on workshop, we'll dive into the fascinating world of monarchs, exploring their migration patterns, lifecycle, and the critical relationship they have with milkweed. Join us to hear about some of the challenges that monarchs face and learn conservation actions to use in your space to ensure a brighter future for monarchs.

Workshop Highlights:

Native Plants and Milkweed: Discover the importance of native plants in creating healthy ecosystems and how milkweed serves as the crucial host plant for monarchs. We'll discuss the role of various native plants in supporting monarchs and other wildlife.
Conservation Tips: Gain practical insights into how you can help protect monarchs and their habitats. We’ll highlight ways to contribute to conservation efforts and create butterfly-friendly environments along their migration routes.
Monarch Tagging: Participate in the exciting community science process of tagging monarch butterflies. This hands-on activity helps us track their migration and contributes valuable data to conservation efforts.
OE Spore Testing: Learn about the challenges monarchs face, including the impact of Ophryocystis elektroscirrha (OE) spores, a parasitic threat to their health. We'll demonstrate how to test for these spores and discuss their effects on monarch populations.

Join us for this popular event in The Grapevine Garden! Enjoy live music alongside six Texas wineries and six Texas breweries. Admission is free to the public and tasting tickets will be available for purchase along with the featured wines and beers. All proceeds benefit United Way of Comal County.

Join us for our 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser — a day of bold flavors, friendly competition, and community spirit! Sample delicious chili from local chefs vying for the title of “Best Chili,” and enjoy music and fun for all ages. There will be door prizes for each entry and testers get one free entry for the Door Prizes.

The Bugs, Bikes, & Botany: Nature Adventure Kit Program invites families to experience the Mission Reach from a whole new angle—a bug’s-eye view! Brought to you by the San Antonio River Foundation, BiblioTech and San Antonio BCycle, with support from PeopleForBikes and the Better Bike Share Partnership, this program is your ticket to a wilder side of San Antonio, where each bike ride introduces you to both our city’s unique nature and the perks of using BCycle, San Antonio’s bikeshare system.

Together, they jump into a fast and funny retelling of the classic fairy tale, playing every role and discovering unexpected surprises along the way. This clever, energetic, family-friendly show celebrates courage, bravery, and the strength that comes from working together.

The 5th annual Raza Cósmica: A constellation of Latinx sci-fi cinema closes with a live episode of the podcast Xicanx Versus Aliens and a curated selection of cosmic-infused short films. Activist/Musician Joaquín Muerte hosts his original podcast, Xicanx Versus Aliens, an exploration of “all things UFO, cryptozoology, paranormal, occult y mas from a person of color perspective.” San Antonio-based artist Amalia Ortiz and Occulto! editor Rodrigo Rendon join Muerte to discuss Latinx sci-fi cinema. Followed by Canción Cannibal Cabaret by Pepe García Gilling, Illegal Alien by Pamela Martinez Barrera, SERTAO 2138 by Deuilton Junior, and MisTik by Dr. Jules Arita Koostachin.

Raza Cósmica is MonteVideo’s annual showcase of sci-fi and speculative films by Latinx and BIPOC filmmakers. The 5th annual festival runs October 9-11, 2025 and spotlights films from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Uruguay, and the United States by Latinx and BIPOC directors.
