Zine Lab Monthly

Zine Lab Monthly

This month's lab will focus on using the cut-up method to create unique zines by taking premade text from books and reassembling them into new narratives and thoughts. The method (or technique) first introduced through the Dadaist Art Movement and then later used by William S. Burroughs (and company) in the works of The Soft Machine, The Ticket That Exploded, and Nova Express. We invite you to this lab to explore and see where random juxtaposition of text might reveal something more.

"You see life is a cut up." -William S. Burroughs, Interviewed by John Walters for "Walters Week"

A zine (pronounced ZEEN) is an independently published magazine or booklet. Using provided supplies, folks can create their own artistic mini books to express themselves and tell their own stories.

Participants are welcome to donate a copy of their zine to be included in our SAPL Zine Collection which is available for public use at Central Library and showcases materials written by, about, and for our community
