If You've Got The Beat, Urban 15 Wants You

A local arts organization is looking for some rhythmic volunteers from San Antonio.

"Urban 15 will be starting its open call for drummers and dancers in the first Tuesday of October," says Urban 15 co-founder George Cisneros.

The troupe's dance and drum corps are known nationwide for their rhythms and presentational creativity. But Cisneros says now they're upping the ante.

"We are looking for people with a higher level of expertise and experience, because the new choreography and drumming is incredibly complex. We are moving to a higher level."

Urban 15's performed at the last three Presidents' Inaugurals and they're looking to continue to expand their style, as well as performance venues.

"We're getting more and more requests statewide, as well as locally, to participate in Arts Festival programs. So the dancers and drummers we're seeking are people who are adaptive to both street celebrations as well as stage performances."

The expectation is for people who have had some kind of experience, even if that experience happened in the distant past.

"We're also seeking people who were fabulous in dance or drumming when they were in high school, perhaps when they were in college and haven't touched it in several years. This is the time when they can really show off."

The troupe will continue to dress in wildly creative lit-from-within costumes.

"We are pursuing even more elaborate costumes than you saw last year.

Age restrictions are 12 years old up 'til well, whatever--you just have to be able to keep up with the young ones.
