Own Your Own San Anto Mural

There’s a mini-mural sale that’s coming up quite soon. The San Anto Cultural Arts Mini-Mural auction was originally scheduled for tonight, but something got in the way.

"The Spurs won the national championship," said Harvey Mireles, executive director the San Anto Cultural Arts Center, about the reason for the postponement.

"We, of course, like the rest of San Antonio, root for our Spurs and love them dearly," he said.

So given the Spurs river parade conflict, San Anto has re-scheduled that silent auction for July 2. As Mireles explained, the idea is to make these mini-murals available to people or businesses
"who can bid on them with the intention of installing them on a public wall, so that the rest of San Antonio can benefit from that public art piece."

San Anto has a rich history of public art.

"We have a 20-year history of installing murals on walls throughout San Antonio," Mireles said. "I think we’re working on our 47th mural. Forty-seventh and 48th actually."

They’re featuring the work of nine muralists on this silent auction. They call them mini-murals, but as to the size, they’re not exactly tiny.

"These murals are approximately 10 ft. by 10 ft."

The auction is happening at the former Escobedo Creamery, 2211 West Salinas Street.

"We’re going to start at 6:30 p.m. and go to 9:30 p.m. And we’re asking for a $5 donation at the gate," Mireles said.

San Anto is known for several things, but mostly for their murals.

"Murals that communicate a very positive message to the citizens of San Antonio," Mireles said. "Not just here on the immediate West Side."
