Two of Halloween’s cinematic traditional favorites take the stage -- together in a sense -- at Fredericksburg Road’s Deco District Woodlawn Theater.
“Right now we have a family friendly production of Mel Brooks' 'Young Frankenstein' and it plays on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at three,” said Artistic Director Greg Hinojosa
And then things take a turn towards the Frankenstinian with the crowd-favorite "Rocky Horror Picture Show."
“For a darker fare we have an adult version of 'Rocky Horror,' which is a live musical that takes place on Thursdays at 8 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 11 p.m."
Also curious about the concurrent Woodlawn Theater productions is their elaborate moving set.
"The set is a giant castle onstage that is on a revolving platform" Hinojosa explained. "And one side of it is the interior of the castle, while the other side, after it revolves, reveals the dungeon and laboratory where both young Frankenstein and Rocky are born."
Both productions are well-known for their music.
"We have a live orchestra for both shows; they’re upstairs in our balcony," Hinojosa said.
As part of the traditional stage show, Hinojosa expects to see lots of adults dressing up in their favorite roles for "Rocky Horror."
