A Silent Film, Live On Stage

Running through this weekend, the Overtime Theater presents the final performances of Sophie Bolles’ stage adaptation of one of the creepiest movies of all time, the silent classic, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.”  It may not be traditional Valentine’s Day Weekend fare, but you can experience an exquisite production that effectively recreates the feel of a silent film live.

Holidays Are Special At The Playhouse With 'Annie' & 'The Christmas Diaries'

It’s fitting that The Playhouse is showing Annie, which is set in a 1930s orphanage. Times were tough during those years in San Antonio, and Board Chair Lee Cusenbary said that theater was very important to San Antonians in the 1930s.

Theatre Group Performs "It's a Wonderful Life" Live And On The Radio

Radio has evolved over the last 90 years since it's golden age of bringing live drama, music, and news . With Television, radio dramas have all-but died out, but beginning this weekend, a local theater troop is bringing back the radio drama for a live performance of "It’s a Wonderful Life."

In the 1940’s, families listened radio dramas and gathered around at home before television; that’s all there was except for movies. Live audiences would fill theatres like a sitcom, sound effects would be improvised, and the actors had only their voices to create their characters.
