Allegations of ethical and financial misconduct have put four San Antonio school districts under scrutiny by the Texas Education Agency – an amount of state involvement in local district operations unmatched by any other major Texas metro.

Harlandale, Southside, Edgewood and South San Antonio ISDs are all currently under state investigation and supervision. Concerns about the districts' well being led the TEA to seize control – a move the agency says is only done as a last resort after other measures fail. Why are so many San Antonio school districts under state control? What led the TEA to get involved in the first place and what comes next? What happens during an official TEA investigation? Is there an appeal process for districts? Under state supervision, who's in charge of local operations?

What has to happen for these San Antonio school districts to regain control? What can be done to prevent future state involvement?
