After school arts programs build a variety of socio-emotional areas in a child's life, but often times these programs don't extend to the poor.
A new white paper from The Wallace Foundation highlights urban arts programs and their impact on the underserved youth in the community, showing definitively that these are the places that youth want to spend their time. SAY Sí has built a thriving arts program here in San Antonio and is featured prominently in the work.
Joining us to talk about the paper from The Wallace Foundation is lead author Denise Montgomery and from SAY Sí, Executive Director Jon Hinojosa. Ashley Perez, an alumna of the program who has made it her career, also joins us to give her first hand experience.

The bullet that killed John F. Kennedy 50 years ago cemented him in the consciousness of America and his performance as president took a backseat to his violent death.
A new PBS special wants to examine his life and time in office 50 years later. Part of the "American Experience" series, this is "the Kennedy Special to see" according to the Los Angeles Times, walking the line between examination and tribute.
It debuted on PBS last night and continues this evening on KLRN. We talk to the show's director, Susan Bellows, about what people forget when talking about JFK.
