Texas lieutenant governor is said to be the most powerful political office in the state. Its occupant controls the work of the Texas Senate and controls the budgeting process as a leader of the Legislative Budget Board.
We talk to Democrat candidate Mike Collier.
By the rules of the Senate, the lieutenant governor establishes all special and standing committees, appoints all chairpersons and members, and assigns all Senate legislation to the committee of his choice.
The lieutenant governor also decides all questions of parliamentary procedure in the Senate and also has broad discretion in following Senate procedural rules.
The current lieutenant governor, Republican Dan Patrick, has used the office to further his social conservative vision for the state. Now businessman Collier says he wants to move Texas in another direction.
Collier spoke about his vision for Texas and what he’s offering voters. We are also reaching out to Patrick and offering him equal time.
